VERLIN D. HANSON
MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND
The Verlin D. Hanson Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established by the
family and friends of Verlin Hanson and the Nebraska Chapter IAAI. The scholarship fund is a memorial to the
unwavering dedication and untiring efforts of Verlin Hanson in promoting fire
suppression, fire prevention and fire investigation.
The scholarship fund is to be used as a basis for the awarding of a scholarship
to a deserving individual who is pursuing an education in a fire science or law
enforcement career.
The scholarship fund is being established with funds from memorial donations
following Verlin’s death and by additional gifts from friends, family and other
organizations. Regardless of the origin or size of future contributions to the
fund, the scholarship shall always be known as the ‘Verlin D. Hanson Memorial
Scholarship’.
The application should be in the form of a letter with attachments.
The letter should contain a general statement of the course of study, and the
accredited college, vocational or trade school the applicant intends to attend. Attached to the application should be a
recent photo. It would be helpful
for that person to bring to our attention any facts that would be pertinent in
our consideration of the applicant’s request.
Application for the scholarship shall be sent to the Nebraska Chapter
Scholarship Committee no later than March 1 of each year, and the chairman of
the scholarship committee shall notify the applicants, the chapter president and
the Hanson family of the committee’s selection before June 1 of that year.
The monies for the scholarship fund shall be the responsibility of the Treasurer
of the Nebraska Chapter IAAI who shall furnish a complete financial report of
the funds deposits and disbursements to both the Hanson family and the Nebraska
Chapter at its annual meeting.
The selection of the recipient of the scholarship shall be done by the Nebraska
Chapter’s Scholarship Committee and at least one member of the Hanson family or
their designee.
The amount of each year’s scholarship shall be determined by the selection
committee, but shall never be of such amount as to deplete the scholarship base
fund. The selection committee shall
have the option to refuse the issuance of a scholarship on any given year due to
the lack of funding of the base fund or the lack of a deserving candidate. If two equally deserving candidates
apply, preference shall be given to the candidate pursuing a career in the fire
services. A check for the amount of the scholarship
issued that year shall be issued by the Treasurer of the Nebraska Chapter to the
recipient of the scholarship as soon as selection of the recipient has been made
by the scholarship committee and the appropriate parties have been notified.
