EMERGENCY MEDICAL CARE—Performance Capabilities

FIRE FIGHTER I CERTIFICATION REQUISITE

The Nebraska State Fire Marshal Training Division requires all individuals applying for candidacy for Fire Fighter I certification to have a minimum level of EMS training.  This training must meet the Job Performance Requirements as listed in the NFPA 1001, 2002 Edition, per those guidelines as noted in Chapter 4—Entrance Requirements, Section 4.3* Emergency Medical Care (EMC).

This training requirement will be assigned to the AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) for the local response organization, who shall sign and submit the Emergency Medical Care Requisite form.  All competencies must be completed to the satisfaction of the AHJ, and the form must be received prior to the any certification testing. This is an Entrance Requirement for Fire Fighter I.

The SFMTD does not offer EMS training, so arrangements have been made with the American Red Cross, Central Plains Chapter, to administer the arrangements for the courses that will meet those requirements as listed in the NFPA 1001 Standard. The following information describes the courses and how to make arrangements for a class in your organization (both courses must be attended, if the candidate does not have any EMC background).
